Information Bulletin: Avalon unveils new "CSR Roadmap" at well-attended 2011 Annual General Meeting ("AGM")

January 31, 2011

Avalon's AGM was held on Thursday January 27, 2011 and attended by approximately 70 shareholders and guests. In addition to the regular business meeting and Corporate Presentation, Avalon's view on the state of the rare earth markets was reviewed by Vice-President Sales and Marketing, Pierre Neatby, along with Avalon's accomplishments over the last year including the launch of our Corporate and Social Responsibility ("CSR") Roadmap. We invite you to visit our website to view the Corporate Presentation delivered at the 2011 AGM.

We also invite you to review the CSR Roadmap January 2011 on our website and provide us with your feedback. This was developed as a first step towards producing a more comprehensive Sustainability Report as recommended by Jantzi Sustainalytics in the CSR performance review it prepared for the Company in 2010. Avalon remains committed to being a responsible corporate citizen as an emerging leader in providing rare metal products to the Clean Technology sector.

If you have any comments or questions on the CSR Road Map, in particular, or the rare earths generally, please do not hesitate to contact Avalon directly at

Avalon Rare Metals Inc. (TSX & NYSE Amex: AVL) is a mineral exploration and development company focused on rare metals deposits in Canada. Its flagship project, the 100%-owned Nechalacho Deposit, Thor Lake, NWT, is emerging as one of the largest undeveloped rare earth elements resources in the world. Its exceptional enrichment in the more valuable 'heavy' rare earth elements, which are key to enabling advances in green energy technology and other growing high-tech applications, is one of the few potential sources of these critical elements outside of China, currently the source of 95% of world supply. Avalon is well funded, has no debt and its work programs are progressing steadily. Social responsibility and environmental stewardship are corporate cornerstones. Avalon's performance on community engagement in the north earned it the 2010 PDAC Environmental and Social Responsibility Award.
